I know all about living with pain and the frustration of not being able to find any relief. In 1984 I had a drunk driver hit me head-on going 80 m.p.h. Because of this, I really do know about neck pain, back pain, knee pain etc. Ten years after the accident I was introduced to the idea of Acupuncture…I had never thought of it, considered it….I was completely ignorant to what it offered. I went in with little hope, scared of the needles, and frustrated with my 10 years of pain and no relief and willing to “try anything”.
I got off the table in a different body. I was amazed at the immediate response and literally went out the door straight to the bookstore. This began my study. Six treatments got me out of pain. Six!
I began college shortly after and spent 8 straight years of diligent study of and toward my degree. I chose Bastyr University for my graduate program because it was only one of three in the nation that offered a Master’s in Science….the highest degree available for an Acupuncturist. However, now, Bastyr is one of five in the nation that offers a Doctoral program in Oncology. I graduated with honors in 2002.
I am 52 years old and have been practicing for 15 years. I have the opportunity to help others out of pain, I absolutely love what I get to do every day. It was worth the 10 years of pain and the 8 years of study. I look back now at that car accident and I now see it as my blessing. It brought me to exactly where I belong…I am doing what I am meant to do. I care about my patients, I have true empathy for pain, I literally give every treatment all I have to relieve pain and suffering.
So, that’s my story. I look forward to hearing yours.
